In the domain of production, the research issues tackled at AgroParisTech focus on the design of innovative and sustainable systems for the agricultural production of goods (animal and plant products) and services, and the design of forest management systems, in the context of agroecological transition.
This concept takes into account not only the multifunctionality of agriculture and forestry, but also changes in global context (climate, markets, land use, etc.). The design of complex systems in situations of uncertainty is based on research into biological functioning at various levels of spatiotemporal organization in the organisms studied (plants, animals, micro-organisms), their interactions and their adaptations to contrasting and fluctuating environments (rarefaction of resources and production factors, adaptation of plants and animals at the individual and population levels), to help to optimise the management of domestic biodiversity and its valorisation. Consideration of the economic and social performances of the systems designed, at the scales of production units, sectors and public policy, is an integral part of this field of research.
