Health insurance
Once enrolled to AgroParisTech, you will have to register to the French health insurance by visiting this website : https://etudiant-etranger.ameli.fr/# (available in English)
To complete your registration, you will need your birth certificate (if possible, in French). Don’t forget to obtain this document before leaving your country.
You will find more information in the document below (in French) :
Non-degree seeking students should take out a private health insurance from their country.
For European Economic Area and Switzerland nationals, there is an European health insurance card or S1.
Complementary health insurance ("mutuelle")
Social security allows international students to benefit from social security coverage during their studies in France. To increase the amount of health expenses reimbursed, you can subscribe to a complementary health insurance (also called "mutuelle"). This is not compulsory but strongly recommended.
You can ask for a quote from student mutuals, insurance companies or banks.
CPAM proposes Complementary CMU but a number of criteria must be met to be eligible.
Medical consultations
When you arrive in France, a medical consultation is strongly recommended.
I’s possible to find the contact details of a doctor and, in some cases, to set up an appointment online : Doctolib.
Attention : check consultation rates before the appointment. Some doctors (with sector 2 agreements) and others (without agreements) are free to set their own rates, which are higher than the official rates.
For any consultation, you must have : "carte vitale" (that you obtain after your Social Security registration), complementary mutual insurance certificate. If you don’t have these documents, you have to advance consultation fees.
Emergency numbers
15 : SAMU (Emergency Medical Assistance Service)
18 : Fire brigade
112 : European emergency number, for all emergency services (fire brigade, police, medical assistance)
36 24 : emergency number to contact a doctor who comes to your home, to call only if you can’t move. Available service 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

House insurance and civil liability
If you live in one of AgroParisTech residences, you will have to subscribe to a house insurance (in case of fire, water damage, ...) and to be able to provide it at your arrival in the residence.
Civil liability insurance (in case of damages caused to others) is also mandatory to be enrolled to AgroParisTech.
Bank account
It is higly recommended to open a bank account once in France. Before leaving your country, try to get some information from your local banks. Some partnerships may exist between your bank and a French one. When opening your bank account, don’t forget to ask if there are some advantages for (international) students, for instance the civil liability insurance may be included.
