Scientific policy
The research and innovation policy of AgroParisTech aims to :
achieve the highest possible level of quality : the Institute considers the quality of academic research to be at least as important as its quantity ;
ensure that the scientific activity of the Institute feeds into training : the themes and subjects of research are fueled by both the endogenous dynamics of knowledge and by changes in training requirements ;
increase the impact of the scientific activities of the Institute on society, by generating research outputs as new products, services, and transferable knowledge, thus contributing to innovation and development ;
make visible the outputs of the Institute (academic papers, technology transfer, etc.) and ensure their recognition by developing actions favoring open science and strengthening links between science and society.
Areas of research and innovation
AgroParisTech scientific expertise is structured around four main fields :
Agricultural production and forestry
Food and non-food transformations
Sustainable management of natural resources and the environment
Human health
In each of these areas, the Institute’s ambition is to have leading academic teams on a wide range of themes.
Active academic partnerships
In France, research activities are performed by different actors : research bodies, universities and higher education institutes called “Grandes Ecoles”, as AgroParisTech.
The research themes developed at AgroParisTech are led within the framework of 22 joint research units (JRU) and 1 Research and Development Unit. The vast majority of which are multi-site and multi-trustee based, in collaboration with other universities and research bodies, as the following ones : INRAE (French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment), CIRAD (French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development), CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research), IRD (French National Research Institute for Development), universities...
Technology transfer and innovation (e.g. patents and licences, innovative research projects) are key aspects of the research strategy. Moreover, AgroParisTech is part of various teaching and research Chairs.
International research and innovation
AgroParisTech scientific staff has always been involved in European research projects, currently funded by the European Union Framework Programme for Research and Innovation Horizon2020, or by other European programmes or bilateral funding schemes as ERA-NET, PRIMA, Interreg, LIFE, CLIMATE-KIC, etc.
One of the indicators of international collaboration is the number of joint international publications in peer reviewed scientific journals. For example, from 2012 to 2016 on the Web of Science, 37% of AgroParisTech academic publications bear testimony to an international collaboration. The institutions with which AgroParisTech maintains and develops contacts with, via research communities, are located in 61 different countries, of which 27 are in Europe (47%). The map of countries that have international authors as co-signatories indicates the importance of collaborations with Europe and North America.
AgroParisTech is also involved in several exchanges and networks (incoming and outcoming mobility).
